A revision of the genus Clidicus Naturalis
Wasmann S.J., E..
This interesting genus of gigantic Scydmaenidae was described by Laporte, comte de Castelnau, in the Ann. Soc. Entom. de France, 1832, p. 396, and based on the first known species Clidicus grandis) the same species has been figured in the Atlas of the Genera des Coléoptères of Lacordaire, tab. 16, fig. 4, and Fairmaire (Ann. Soc. Ent. de France, 1856, p. 317) added some complementary remarks to its description. In 1863 Pascoe (Journ. of Entomology, II, p. 28, plate II, fig. 3) described a second species as Cl. formicarius. A third species, Cl. taphrocephalus, was added by Gestro in 1878 in the Ann. Mus. Civ. Genova (XII, p. 144). The Clidicus Doriae, described by Schaufuss in the Ann. Mus. Civ. Genova, 1884 [(2) I, p. 419], does not differ essentially from...

Description of a new Helota from Sumatra Naturalis
Ritsema Cz., C..
During my recent visit to Paris Mr. Ant. Grouvelle has had the courtesy to offer me from his collection a unique specimen of a very interesting new species of the genus Helota. This specimen, a female, was captured by Mr. Bouchard, one of his correspondents, in the mountainous regions of Palembang (Sumatra). At the request of Mr. Grouvelle I dedicate this species to its fortunate discoverer, calling it

Descriptions of new Melanidae Naturalis
Schepman, M.M..
Amongst the Melanidae of the Leyden Museum, many species were unknown to me, so I submitted them all to the judgment of the late Dr. A. Brot, who declared many of them to be doubtful, which I have indicated in the Catalogue of the Museum by a note of interrogation; a few others, however, seemed also to this much regretted authority to be new to science and so I ventured to describe them as follows.

Euthaliopsis, a new genus of Rhopalocera Naturalis
Neervoort van de Poll, J.R.H..
The insect for which the generic name of Euthaliopsis is here proposed, has been known already long since, haying been described by Hewitson in 1862 under the name of Adolias Aetion (Ex. Butt. III, Adolias t. 2, figs. 6, 7). — Butler, in dealing with Adolias (Proc. Zool. Soc. 1868, p. 613), refers A. Aetion Hew. ( Aetion incorrectly spelt Action) to Symphaedra with a ?. — Kirby’s Catalogue of Rhopalocera enumerates it among Symphaedra without a query. — Staudinger describing (Ex. Tagfalter, I, p. 152) an allied species or local form viz. Plateni Staud., places Aetion in Euthalia. — An examination, however, of the neuration of the forewing shows at a glance that Aetion cannot find its place neither in Euthalia (Adolias) nor in Sympliaedra, , differing from...

Journal de la Société des Américanistes [REVISTA ELECTRÓNICA EN LÍNEA] Buscador Latinoamericano
Société des Américanistes.
Hybrid printed and electronic edition with a 5 years embargo period Founded in 1896, the /Journal de la société des américanistes/ is a scientific journal with an international reputation. Devoted to Amerindian societies and cultures, considered in the totality of their history, /JSA/ owes its originality and its richness to a disciplinary openness that leads to the encounter of prehistory, archaeology, ethno-history, ethnology, ethno-linguistics and more rarely, sociology and biological anthropology, in its pages. A similar spirit of openness characterizes the languages used by the journal: French, English, Spanish, and Portuguese, besides Indian languages. Specialized, but resolutely turning its back on the compartmentalization of disciplines.

Locustella luscinioides, found breeding in the province of Friesland (Netherlands) Naturalis
Bolleman van der Veen, P.J..
On the 14th of July 1893 I obtained a nest with one egg of Locustella luscinioides in the environs of Leeuwarden. This fact seems to me to be remarkable, seeing that Professor H. Schlegel in his »Vogels van Nederland” (De dieren van Nederland: Vogels, vol. I, p. 63, 1878) says: »In our country this bird is found breeding hitherto only near and on the banks of the river »Maas”, near Kralingen for instance.” The same is said by Dr. J. Ritzema Bos in his »Landbouwdierkunde”.

On a collection of Birds from Nias Naturalis
Büttikofer, J..
The island of Nias, the largest of the long series of islands flanking the west coast of Sumatra, and situated at a distance of about 70 miles from the north-west coast of the latter, has, of late, more than once been the subject of zoological investigations. The first intelligence about the avifauna of Nias is due to a visit, paid to that island by Baron von Rosenberg, in 1854. The results of his investigations are published in the Verhandelingen van het Bataviaasch Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen, Vol. XXX (1863) under the title: Verslag omtrent het eiland Nias en deszelfs bewoners, door J. T. Nieuwenhuisen en H. C. B. von Rosenberg. This report contains, on pp. 19 and 20, a list of 50 species of birds without any further details. Several of...

On a hermaphroditical specimen of Phasianus colchicus Naturalis
Büttikofer, J..
A few days ago I had the chance to examine a peculiarly colored Pheasant, which after dissection proved to be a hermaphrodite, having a feebly though distinctly developed testicle on the left, and an ovary on the right side. The exterior of the bird shows a curious mixture of the plumage of male and female. Head and neck resemble more the female than the male, but are strongly banded across with metallic green, the surroundings of the eyes are nearly entirely feathered and the red, naked parts much reduced, the two bunches of lengthened feathers on the sides of the hind-head absent, but replaced by a great number of lengthened feathers on the hind neck; the neck is separated all round from the body by a feebly developed collar like is the case in the...

On a new Duck from the island of Sumba Naturalis
Büttikofer, J..
Amongst a number of unregistered bird-skins in our Museum, which passed through my hands a few weeks ago, I found a Duck from the Island of Sumba with very worn plumage and damaged feet, probably a female or an immature male, which I was unable to identify with any known species. Count Salvadori, to whom I sent the bird for comparison, kindly wrote me that the bird certainly belongs to a new species, but that it is rather difficult to find the right place for it in the system, unless we can dispose of an adult male. For this reason I do not wish, for the present, to give the bird a definitive generic name, and consequently propose to name it, in honour of Count Salvadori, the author of the recent excellent monograph of the Anseres in the Catalogue of Birds...

On a probably new species of Crypturus Naturalis
Büttikofer, J..
A few days ago the Leyden Museum was presented by Dr. Kerbert, the Director of the Zoological Garden at Amsterdam, with a specimen of Crypturus which had been sent alive from Argentinia and died after having been kept in the Garden during the last winter. The specimen, an adult female with worn off tips of the wings and somewhat damaged on the hind neck, appears to belong to an undescribed species, which I propose to name
